Airport Terminal Layout
Detroit Metropolitan Airport, or DTW, has two major terminals: the McNamara Terminal and the North Terminal. The McNamara Terminal is the larger of the two, with three concourses (A, B, and C) and a total of 121 gates. The North Terminal has one concourse (D) and 26 gates. Both terminals are connected by a shuttle bus service.
Overview of Terminals
The McNamara Terminal is the primary terminal for Delta Air Lines, and also serves several other airlines including Air France, KLM, and Aeromexico. It is known for its impressive architecture and amenities, including a large selection of restaurants and shops, as well as a spa and a hotel located within the terminal. The North Terminal serves several airlines including Southwest, American, and United, and offers a variety of dining and shopping options for travelers.
Getting Between Terminals
To get between the McNamara Terminal and the North Terminal, travelers can take the complimentary shuttle bus service, which runs 24 hours a day and operates every 10-15 minutes. The shuttle pick-up and drop-off locations are located on the lower level of both terminals, near the baggage claim areas. Travelers should allow extra time for the shuttle ride, as it can take up to 15 minutes depending on traffic and the time of day.

Locations of Security Checkpoint(s)
Detroit Metropolitan Airport has multiple security checkpoints located in both the McNamara Terminal and the North Terminal. In the McNamara Terminal, there are two checkpoints located on the ticketing level, one near the Delta Airlines ticket counter and the other near the American Airlines ticket counter. There are also two checkpoints located on the departure level, one near gate A18 and the other near gate A36. In the North Terminal, there are two checkpoints located on the ticketing level, one near the Southwest Airlines ticket counter and the other near the Delta Airlines ticket counter. There are also two checkpoints located on the departure level, one near gate D7 and the other near gate D17.
Fast Track Lanes and Locations
Passengers who are looking to expedite their security screening process can take advantage of the TSA PreCheck program, which allows for a faster and more efficient screening experience. The TSA PreCheck lanes are available at all security checkpoints in both the McNamara Terminal and the North Terminal. Additionally, the McNamara Terminal offers CLEAR lanes, which provide an even faster screening experience for members of the CLEAR program. The CLEAR lanes are located at the North and South checkpoints on the departure level.
Passport & Immigration Control Locations
Passport and immigration control at Detroit Metropolitan Airport is handled by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The CBP facilities are located in the McNamara Terminal and are accessible to arriving international passengers. The CBP facilities include Global Entry kiosks, which allow for expedited processing for pre-approved, low-risk travelers. Additionally, there are Automated Passport Control (APC) kiosks located in both the McNamara Terminal and the North Terminal, which allow U.S. and Canadian citizens to complete their customs declaration and biometric verification electronically.
TSA and TSA Pre Checkpoints
Detroit Metropolitan Airport has TSA and TSA Pre Checkpoints available for passengers. TSA Pre Check is a program that allows expedited screening for eligible passengers, meaning they can keep on their shoes, belts, and light jackets and leave laptops and liquids in their carry-on bags. To be eligible for TSA Pre Check, passengers must apply and be approved through the TSA Pre Check program.
Global Entry Locations
Detroit Metropolitan Airport has a Global Entry Enrollment Center located in the McNamara Terminal. Global Entry is a program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. To apply for Global Entry, travelers must complete an online application and schedule an interview at an enrollment center. The Detroit Metropolitan Airport enrollment center is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm.

CLEAR is a service that allows travelers to bypass long security lines at the airport by using biometric identification. At DTW Airport (DTW), CLEAR is available at both the North Terminal and McNamara Terminal. Airport Lounge Locations
Detroit Metropolitan Airport has a variety of lounges available for travelers to relax and unwind before their flight. The Delta Sky Club is located in both the McNamara Terminal and the North Terminal, offering comfortable seating, complimentary snacks and beverages, and high-speed Wi-Fi. The McNamara Terminal also features the Lufthansa Business Lounge, which provides a quiet space for business travelers with workstations and meeting rooms.
Other lounges at DTW include the United Club in the McNamara Terminal and the American Airlines Admirals Club in the North Terminal. Luggage carts are available for use at Detriot Metro for a fee. The carts can be found near the baggage claim areas, parking garages, and terminal entrances. Passengers can pay for the carts using cash or credit card. The airport also offers SmarteCartes, which are self-service luggage carts that can be rented using a credit card.
Luggage Storage Locations
Detroit Metro Airport does not offer left luggage services. However, there are several luggage storage options available near the airport. Passengers can use luggage storage services offered by nearby hotels or luggage storage facilities located in downtown Detroit. These facilities offer secure storage for luggage and other personal items for a fee.
